Lesson Cancellations

When a teacher is absent due to illness, professional development training, conferences, excursions, or school trips, regular lessons may be affected.

Students in MP1–MP4 will continue to attend their scheduled lessons, which will be supervised by another teacher or an Educational Assistant. The absent teacher will provide appropriate learning activities and assignments to ensure continuity of learning.

Students in MP5 and the Diploma Programme (DP) are expected to use the scheduled lesson time for independent study, completing the work set by the absent teacher. Independent study must take place in designated study areas, including the Owl and Sparrow learning spaces, the library, and study booths. Students are expected to use this time responsibly and productively.

If a lesson is cancelled at the beginning or end of the school day, MP5 and DP students may be permitted to arrive later or leave earlier, as appropriate. Parents of MP5 students will be informed when such arrangements are made.

The absence of a teacher due to longer term illness is problematic, hard to predict and difficult to find immediate solutions. In such cases, we do not have a bank of supply teachers to call upon nor is it easy to find replacement teachers locally with the qualifications, experience, and approach we require. In order to manage such situations, until we can find a replacement teacher, lessons are supervised internally by  another teacher or one of our Education Assistants.
